What is the Secret in Tim Hortons Coffee?
By Steve East
There is an extremely successful chain of Coffee Fast Food outlets in Canada (and some in the USA). It became ridiculously widespread with thousands of locations! On some street intersections here in Ottawa, Canada, I saw FOUR outlets within sight of each other (one on each of the four corners)! The reason I'm writing this article, is that I'm trying to figure out how this could happen. I say that because it seems that there is a manic following (including myself) for the coffee they serve, (on a daily basis). How come we suffer while waiting a long time to get served in a "drive through," or inside, with a huge line up? And this, first thing in the morning (risking being late for work)! What on "God's Green Earth" do they put in their coffee? Is there a "secret" ingredient or not? Does anyone know for sure? As far as I can tell, there is a hint of "hazelnut" flavor. The coffee machines are clean, and the volume of sales would (for sure) contribute to the "freshness." Is it possible (like the cocaine - Coca cola - thing from the past) that we will find out (perhaps from a disgruntled employee) about a surprise hidden addition to their coffee? Seriously, I'm only kidding about this, there would be no way in this modern era to hide something so big for so long. Anyway, I will continue to enjoy my daily ritual, oblivious to the mass marketing prowess of Tim Hortons Coffee! Make that an extra large, three creams (yikes) and two sugars please... |

It is so true. This is a strange phenomenon. Tim Horton's is clearly not the best coffee, but people love it. On the other hand, Starbucks has much higher quality coffee beans - but they fail on the in-store execution - tastes overly strong - almost burnt. Bucks also overpriced. I'd bet if someone could deliver a better coffee, well made at teh right price, that TH would have a run for their money.
